TRV
Modern Central heating systems need Thermostatic Radiator Valves (TRV) to meet the current legislation for energy saving.
Allowance within these systems need to be made to maintain getting heat away from within the boiler to prevent overheat lockout.

| TRV Valve | Lock shield Valve | Automatic Bypass fitted in airing cupboard |
This can be done in 2 ways:
- All radiators except 1 can be fitted with TRV's with the remaining radiator controlled with 2 lock shield valves in the open position this radiator is generally fitted in an area controlled by the room stat. If having overheat problems ensure this radiator has not been removed or adjusted recently.
- If all radiators fitted with TRV's an automatic bypass would need to be fitted on the system. (see Automatic Bypass Image above)
A temporary measure to overcome this problem and increase minimum flow from boiler, is to remove one of the TRV heads from the valve. (This may not always be possible due to the different valve / head connections)
